Job Summary

The CNC Programmer will create programs for complex parts and fixtures using the most efficient manufacturing sequence with MasterCam for multi-axis horizontal and vertical CNC mills, and CNC lathes. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop programs for 2, 3, 4 and 5 axis vertical and horizontal milling, as well as turning operations. Work with manufacturing personnel, facilities, engineering, and quality to perform any needed modifications.
  • Review 3D CAD design blueprints.
  • Create Multi-axis toolpath for CNC Mills and Lathes using current MasterCam program.
  • Writes programs using Post Processors and edits existing ones for increased efficiency.
  • Develop programs that eliminate the need for deburring operations.
  • Prepare Run Instructions, Setup Sheets and Tool Lists for parts being programmed.
  • Check completed programs by running simulations or tests.
  • Choose cutting tools that will be needed and calculate proper feeds and speeds.
  • Analyze operation sequence to optimize machine time and setup.
  • Creates run instructions for machinists.
  • Work with QA and Setup personnel to solve program problems.
  • Work with QA and SU personnel to ensure good first article.
  • Prepare fixtures and toolbox for SU personnel.
  • Perform machine setups when needed.
  • Operate in accordance with AS9100 documentation; maintain accuracy of such documentation and submit changes when needed.
  • Work to continuously improve the manufacturing processes.
  • Work with estimating team to review and approve customer quotes and investigate ways to more efficiently meet the customer’s needs;
  • Work with Manufacturing personnel and engineering to find better ways to produce parts (i.e., different machines or methods);
  • Develop In-Process Inspection Report (INPR);
  • Supervise other CNC Programmers

Needed Skills

(Languages, IT, Technical, Functional, Etc.)

  • Solid foundation of knowledge and experience with CNC Machining and Setups
  • Advanced knowledge of MasterCam, SolidWorks and Vericut required as is knowledge of mill specs.
  • Able to generate complex 3D contour surfaces.
  • Experience in programming from IGES and STEP files generated from a variety of CAD systems.
  • Experienced in the setup and machining of complex machined parts.
  • Knowledge of a variety of materials including aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel
  • Must have the ability to write and read complex spreadsheets.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of safety measures pertinent to each job assignment.

 

Needed Work Experience

 

  • 5-10 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 5 years minimum experience on Mastercam or Edgecam
  • 2 years+ experience with CNC machining/programming

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree required (BSME,BSMET, BSIT); or equivalent work experience and education may be considered.
